Every day(ish) in December, we here at Destination Android are celebrating the best games released in 2017, starting with No. 31 on the first with a new ranking each day all the way to the end of the year with our first ever Game of the Year award.
I drew a tree. It was a good tree, too. Not particularly detailed, not unique in any way, but a good, solid tree. It had brown in it, for the bark. There was green for the foliage. A bunch of red circles made for apples, probably. The tree was standing on a big patch of green, which was probably grass. The background was a light blue.
Steve didn’t like my tree.
I don’t particularly like Steve, but I’ve got bills to pay. My little painter man inside the video game on my phone also has bills to pay, so I scrapped the tree and drew it again. This time I drew a white blob in the middle of it, and then an orange blob that I decided was a face. I gave the blob some eyes and a mouth and then massive navy blue hands.
In my head, the man in the tree was coming out of an interdimensional portal and was thoroughly confused by the fact that he was suddenly in a tree. A pretty good tree, too.
Steve didn’t come back in time to see what I’d drawn after his criticism, but I did sell the masterpiece for a solid $84, which allowed me to keep painting so I could keep selling the work to pretentious art buyers and pay my gosh dang bills.
This is Passpartout: The Starving Artist. A silly, tranquil drawing game that sucked me in like no other drawing game ever could. You see, I’m a terrible artist and I’ve always been insecure about my own mediocrity. Passpartout exposes me to a world of people who, while harsh at times, appreciate my bad art most of the time.
It’s a very simple, relaxing game that should be fairly self-explanatory. The writing is very good, if minimal. This one shouldn’t blow your mind, but if you’re like me, you’ll reach some deeper level of zen with it that with most games I simply don’t.
Peep the trailer below.
Passpartout: The Starving Artist is $4.99 on Google Play.
