Every day(ish) in December, we here at Destination Android are celebrating the best games released in 2017, starting with No. 31 on the first. We missed some deadlines, but are nonetheless enthused to bring you the next batch of games up until our absolute favorite game of 2017 is revealed on the 31st.

20. The Witch’s Isle

A dreamy puzzle/adventure game about a villager who is cursed by a witch who rules a town, The Witch’s Isle is as intriguing as it is striking. Some of the best pixel art we’ve seen went into crafting the world around you, the player, as you search to uncover the mysteries of the witch and her isle. The game has multiple endings — we haven’t seen all of them yet. But it’s a great time.

The Witch’s Isle from Cocosola is free with in-app purchases on Google Play.

19. Milkmaid of the Milky Way

A classic-inspired point-and-click adventure game with excellent pixel graphics isn’t going to be groundbreaking in 2017, but in a crowded genre, a few stand above the rest. Milkmaid of the Milky Way is one of them, telling the story of Ruth, a young woman living on a farm in 1920’s Norway. Also, spaceships and aliens. This game kind of came from nowhere for us, and it’s one of our favorites.

Milkmaid of the Milky Way from Machineboy is $4.49 on Google Play.

18. Cosmic Express

I’m not sure why this space colony is contained in such small bubbles where its inhabitants are incapable of walking and must be transported by mini trains, but it’s cute, it’s inventive, and it gets pretty difficult. Your goal is to carry all the different passengers to their goals in one go, placing track in a circuitous manner to hit them all at once while typically only being able to pick one up at a time. It’s a charming game, and worth every penny.

Cosmic Express from Draknek is $4.99 on Google Play.

17. FRAMED 2

FRAMED is a puzzle game told in panels. The second game doesn’t have the same impact or novel quality that the first one had, and it suffers for it, but it’s still an incredibly well-crafted, well-polished and fantastic game. Billed as a noir puzzle game, the gameplay is entirely made up of rearranging panels of an animated comic book to change the outcome of the story.

FRAMED 2 from Loveshack is currently $0.99 on Google Play.

16. Miracle Merchant

Arnold Rauers is very, very good at making card games. Not collectible card games per se, but smaller puzzle games with charming visuals, deceptive complexity and infinite replayability. Miracle Merchant is one of two games he put out in 2017, alongside Card Thief, which may or may not be featured later in this list. In Miracle Merchant, you are the apprentice of a master alchemist who creates potions for adventurers. You mix and combine ingredients in the form of cards to create potions based on the quest given.

Miracle Merchant from TiNYTOUCHTALES is free with in-app purchases on Google Play.
