After the End: Forsaken Destiny from Nexon Mobile is a flawed game (just look at that title), but one that I lost myself in for long stretches of time. It’s an absolutely gorgeous puzzle adventure game with fantastic 3D art.

There are shades of Monument Valley, Journey and even some Legend of Zelda, at least from where I’m sitting. It’s an inspired world, carefully built from end to end, and visually stands out above all else this year. The game is so graphically striking that I initially worried it would be another technical showcase with little substance, something that is becoming all the more common on Android.

Fortunately, it’s not that. It’s a very fulfilling journey, though one that isn’t incredibly challenging. I was never really stumped while playing it, but at the same time, challenge wasn’t really what I was going to the game for.

The game’s soundtrack is also very good, and mixes with the gameplay and visuals extremely well. The only complaint I had with it was the questionable checkpointing/save system. It was easy to lose progress in the game depending on where I happened to be when I stopped playing. That’s something that becomes all the more important when gaming on a phone.

Either way, it’s a journey worth going on. You can see the game’s launch trailer below.

After the End: Forsaken Destiny is $3.99 on Google Play.
